Common questions
How do I become a patient at NovaMed?
Register your interest through the website or by phone, and our staff will contact you to complete a short intake. Your first appointment is a longer visit so your physician can get to know you and your history.
Do I need a BC Services Card?
For visits covered by MSP, bring your BC Services Card or provincial health card. If you do not have MSP coverage, you can be seen as a private patient; see our fees for uninsured services.
Can my whole family register together?
Yes. We care for patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors, and we are happy to register families together.
How do I book an appointment?
Online booking opens with our launch and connects to the clinic scheduling system. Until then, please call the clinic to book.
What if I need care today?
Our walk-in service sees patients the same day for minor illness and injury. Walk in, or book online or call if you would rather not wait.
How do prescription refills work?
Bring a list of your medications to your visits. Most refills are handled during appointments; if you run out between visits, contact the clinic and we will advise the best option. You are always free to use any pharmacy you choose.
How will I get my test results?
Our staff will contact you about results that need follow-up. If you want to discuss any result, book a follow-up visit and your physician will go through it with you.
How do referrals to specialists work?
Your physician sends the referral, the specialist office contacts you with an appointment, and we follow up on the outcome at your next visit.
Can you transfer my records from my previous clinic?
Yes. You sign a records release form at intake and we request your records. Some clinics charge a fee for transferring records; that fee is set by your previous clinic, not by us.
Do you see visitors from outside BC or outside Canada?
Yes, as private patients. Out-of-province coverage varies, so bring your health card and expect to pay our private visit fee if your plan does not cover the visit.
What languages does the clinic speak?
Our team welcomes you in English and Farsi.
